WCF officially launched payment for compensation benefits

The Workers Compensation Fund (WCF) has inaugurated the payment of compensation benefit and the partnership agreement between WCF and health services providers today on 20th December 2016 at LAPF Kisenga Conference Centre, Dar es Salaam.
The guest of honour was the Prime Minister of United Republic of Tanzania Hon. Kassim Majaliwa Majaliwa who was represented by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, Policy, Parliament, Employment Labour, Youth and Disabled, Ms. Jenista Mhagama.
The inauguration has come as implementation of the Workers Compensation Act [Cap 263 R.E 2015] lead together with the Government Notice No. 212A dated 30th June 2016 of which among other issues, Fund started to receive claims, process and pay compensation in accordance to Government Law and Regulations of 2016.
The main purpose for the establishment of the Fund is to provide for adequate and equitable compensation for employees who suffer occupational injuries or contract occupational diseases arising out of and in the course of their employment and in case of death, for their dependants.
WCF guarantees all employees timely payment of adequate and equitable compensation as never a daydream but an obligation of the Fund.
This inauguration has enabled Tanzania health services providers to work with the Fund, on the basis that the health service providers will be handling all employees who will suffer occupational injuries or contract occupational diseases and death arising out of and in the course of their employment.
The benefits which were inaugurated today include;
- Medical aid;
- Compensation for temporary disablement;
- Compensation for permanent disablement;
- Rehabilitation services;
- Constant attendance care grant;
- Funeral grants;
- Compensation to dependents of the deceased.
However, the partnership inaugurated today is between the WCF and the following health care & health service providers:
- Muhimbili National Hospital
- Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute
- Ocean Road Cancer Institute
- National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) – 6,789 Centres
- Jubilee Insurance Company – 278 Centres
- Strategies Insurance (Tanzania) Limited – 517 Centres
The payment of compensation benefit to all employees in the public and private sector who will suffer occupational injuries or contract occupational diseases or death arising out of and in the course of their employment will help to improve working condition, protect national work force, enhance employee welfare and thus increase productivity and economic growth of our Country.
